HP Media Vault Pro

What is HP Media Vault Pro?

The HP Media Vault is a home printer and file server from Hewlett-Packard. One of the advantages of the system is that if the primary drive is lost (which includes some system software which works in conjunction with the firmware) the system can be restored onto a replacement SATA hard drive using HP's nasrecovery software.

Upon installation and setup, it defines an auto-start registry entry which makes this program run on each Windows boot for all user logins. The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The software installer includes 17 files and is usually about 576 KB (589,824 bytes). mediasmartupdate.dll is the automatic update component of the software designed to download and apply new updates should new versions be released.
