What is Norton Internet Security?
Norton Internet Security, developed by Symantec Corporation, is a computer program that provides malware prevention and removal during subscription period and uses signatures and heuristics to identify viruses. Other features include a personal firewall, email spam filtering, and phishing protection. Symantec distributes the product as a download, a boxed copy, and as OEM software.
Overview
The most common release is 20.4.0.40, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. Upon being installed, the software adds a Windows Service which is designed to run continuously in the background. Manually stopping the service has been seen to cause the program to stop functing properly. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The primary executable is named ccsvchst.exe. It also includes a system tray icon that is displayed in the notifications area while the program is running. The setup package generally installs about 108 files and is usually about 84.02 MB (88,102,595 bytes).
