Windows Live Installer
What is Windows Live Installer?
Windows Live Installer was the name of the website and software given to serve the purposes of allowing users to discover, download and install Windows Live software and services. Users were able to select the Windows Live software they wished to install on the website, and the website would pass on the information to the unified installer software such that the installer will only download and install those applications selected.
Overview
The most common release is 12.0.1471.1025, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. Upon being installed, the software adds a Windows Service which is designed to run continuously in the background. Manually stopping the service has been seen to cause the program to stop functing properly. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. The primary executable is named wlsetupsvc.exe. The setup package generally installs about 21 files and is usually about 1.89 MB (1,984,000 bytes). The installed file wlupdate.dll is the auto-update component of the program which is designed to check for software updates and notify and apply them when new versions are discovered.
