PC Auto Backup

What is PC Auto Backup?  (from Samsung Electronics)

With Auto Backup, you can wirelessly transfer photos and movies to your PC - even if the computer is turned off. With a one-time simple set-up, the camera can turn on any PC with Wake-on LAN functionality. And when the save is finished, the camera can shut down the computer, to save energy.

Overview

PC Auto Backup is a program developed by Samsung Electronics. It is bundled and preinstalled with various Hewlett-Packard computers. The most used version is 1.1.1.21, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. During setup, the program registers itself to launch on boot through a Windows Schedule Task in order to automatically start-up. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The main program executable is AutoBackup.exe. The software installer includes 15 files and is usually about 13.6 MB (14,261,326 bytes). In comparison to the total number of users, most PCs are running the OS Windows 7 (SP1) as well as Windows 10. While about 46% of users of PC Auto Backup come from the United States, it is also popular in Germany and United Kingdom.

This program is pre-installed on the PC

Such software is installed by the manufacture when delivering the PC to the end user. Some pre-installed programs are considered bloatware as they are simply limited function trials, while others are required for proper PC operation.
