Source SDK

What is Source SDK?  (from Valve)

The Source SDK is freely available to all Steam users. It is used to develop mods and content for the Source 2006, Source 2007 and Source 2009 engine branches. Once Steam has finished downloading you can launch the SDK from the Tools tab. You can also create a desktop shortcut by right-clicking on the SDK in the Tools ...  Read more

Overview

Source SDK is a program developed by Valve. Upon installation and setup, it defines an auto-start registry entry which makes this program run on each Windows boot for all user logins. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The main program executable is hl2.exe. The software installer includes 129 files and is usually about 36.1 MB (37,855,224 bytes). In comparison to the total number of users, most PCs are running the OS Windows 7 (SP1) as well as Windows 10. While about 59% of users of Source SDK come from the United States, it is also popular in United Kingdom and Germany.
