Skype is software for calling other people on their computers or phones. Download Skype and start calling for free all over the world. Skype has all the features of an ordinary phone so it's even easier to manage your calls. Basic chat and emoticons - when it's not convenient to call, chat or Instant Message (IM) your contacts. Quickfilter and Speed-Dial - find Skype contacts, recent chats and SkypeOut contacts quickly and easily, then enter their Skype name to call them back quickly.

The most common release is 6.5.158, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. It adds registry entry for the current user which will allow the program to automatically start each time it is rebooted. Upon being installed, the software adds a Windows Service which is designed to run continuously in the background. Manually stopping the service has been seen to cause the program to stop functing properly. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. It adds a Browser Helper Object (BHO) to Internet Explorer. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The primary executable is named skype.exe. It also includes a system tray icon that is displayed in the notifications area while the program is running. The setup package generally installs about 93 files and is usually about 35.26 MB (36,969,518 bytes). The installed file Updater.dll is the auto-update component of the program which is designed to check for software updates and notify and apply them when new versions are discovered.

1. On the Start menu (for Windows 8, right-click the screen's bottom-left corner), click Control Panel, and then, under Programs, do one of the following:
• Windows Vista/7/8/10: Click Uninstall a Program.
• Windows XP: Click Add or Remove Programs.
2. When you find the program Skype™ 6.5, click it, and then do one of the following:
• Windows Vista/7/8/10: Click Uninstall.
• Windows XP: Click the Remove or Change/Remove tab (to the right of the program).
3. Follow the prompts. A progress bar shows you how long it will take to remove Skype.
