Spy Alert
from Long Mile Solutions, LLC
What is Spy Alert?
This is a web browser extension and Browser helper Object (for Internet Explorer) that delivers contextual based advertising to the web browser. In addition it will modify the user's browser home and search pages as well as 'New Tab' pages to push advertising and search. The software acts as an adware type application and is typically defined as a unwanted application by various malware vendors.
From the EULA: "Spy Alert works by installing a browser extension in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome. All of the files for Spy Alert are installed in the standard 'C:\Program Files (x86)' location - there is no funny business or extra files added. Included in those files is an un-installer that is also registered to appear in your computer's 'Control Panel %3E Add/Remove Programs' section. A link to the uninstaller is added to your Start Menu under 'Start %3E Programs %3E Spy Alert'. There are also a couple of registry settings added to your Windows Registry that are required for the normal operation of your app, but there is nothing strange or out of the ordinary here, either."
This software uses a bundle installer: "During installation of Spy Alert, you may receive additional offers such as a search toolbar. These offers are optional and you will be given the choice to "Accept" or "Skip All" the offers. Search toolbar offers may include the option to change your default search, your home page and/or your new tab page."
