What is Cisco Systems VPN Client?

Cisco® VPN Client software enables customers to establish secure, end-to-end encrypted tunnels to any Cisco Easy VPN server. Automatically distributes updated versions of the Cisco VPN Client to remote users. Eliminates the manual configuration previously required to set Internet Explorer browser proxy settings for Web browsing.

About  (from Cisco Systems)

Establish encrypted VPN tunnels with the Cisco VPN Client for highly secure remote connectivity for your mobile employees or teleworkers. Simple to deploy and use, our IPSecurity (IPsec) -based VPN client is compatible with all Cisco VPN products.

Overview

Upon being installed, the software adds a Windows Service which is designed to run continuously in the background. Manually stopping the service has been seen to cause the program to stop functing properly. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The primary executable is named vpngui.exe. The setup package generally installs about 17 files and is usually about 10.96 MB (11,489,568 bytes). The installed file autoupdate.exe is the auto-update component of the program which is designed to check for software updates and notify and apply them when new versions are discovered.
