What is electroLyrics?
electroLyrics is displayed to users through a co-bundle offer as a way to display lyrics when watching YouTube videos. However, the true purpose is to display search/ads through web browser hijacking. It is a web browser extension and Browser helper Object (for Internet Explorer) that delivers contextual based advertising to the web browser. In addition it will modify the user's browser home and search pages as well as 'New Tab' pages to push advertising and search. The software acts as an adware type application and is typically defined as a unwanted application by various malware vendors. It is distributed through bundle sites such as download-instantly.com.
The add-in performs a number of behaviors that will hijack advertising on non-associated web sites as well as inject its own advertising in the form of contextual link ads, banner ads, popups and pop-overs including the hijacking of known ad serving sites. This malware is typically bundled with various third party unwanted applications as well as through web browser exploits. Although the program comes packaged with an uninstaller and is listed in the Windows Add/Remove Programs, fully removing this could be very difficult and an anti-malware product might be required.
