What is Web Shield?

This software is ad-supported and displays advertisements in the form of injected banner ads, popups and context hyperlinks in the user's web browser. In addition it will modify the web browser's search provider.

From the Terms: "Applications may be supported by advertising, which may include display ads (banner ads), in-text ads, interstitial ads, or other types of ads. Users may see additional ads when using their Internet browser or other software applications. We use many partners to deliver the most relevant and highest quality ads possible, and make all reasonable efforts not to show ads that may be considered pornographic, promote violence or the use of firearms or contains obscene language. Applications may be automatically enabled on your web browsers following installation. Applications or advertisements may require changing your web browser’s default home page, default page or set of pages on startup, default search provider, and other browser settings. So that Applications can function most efficiently and with the least annoyance, Applications may modify or disable certain web browser or operating system features including, but limited to load time alerts, accelerator features, and Content Security Policy functionality. Applications may also include features to notify you when you are launching an application or visiting a web domain that may interfere with your installed Applications. To properly run after a system reboot, Applications may modify your computer’s Startup menu items or other system settings that control applications to run on startup. All Application uninstallers make a best effort to fully revert any changes settings upon uninstall, but do to the complex nature of software and other third party software that may be installed, perfect uninstall performance cannot be guaranteed."

How do I remove Web Shield?

You can uninstall Web Shield from your computer by using the Add/Remove Program feature in the Window's Control Panel.
  1. On the Start menu (for Windows 8, right-click the screen's bottom-left corner), click Control Panel, and then, under Programs, do one of the following:
    • Windows Vista/7/8/10: Click Uninstall a Program.
    • Windows XP: Click Add or Remove Programs.
  2. When you find the program Web Shield, click it, and then do one of the following:
    • Windows Vista/7/8/10: Click Uninstall.
    • Windows XP: Click the Remove or Change/Remove tab (to the right of the program).
  3. Follow the prompts. A progress bar shows you how long it will take to remove Web Shield.
  4. If for some reason uninstallation fails, please install Microsoft's uninstall fixer utility which will help fix problems with programs that can't be uninstalled at support.microsoft.com.
