SoftwareUpdater

What is SoftwareUpdater?

SoftwareUpdater is the update program which runs on the PC and checks for updates and automatically downloads and installs them if found based on the user's settings. The program can be configured by the user for maintaining a schedule for when to check the remote server for periodic software updates. The program is primarily designed to keep the software up to date or provide product patches if required. In addition to releasing new versions of the software at regular intervals, the update program can provide additional information to the user. Users can choose a different schedule, or check manually if they don’t have a continuous Internet connection. If it finds an item to download, it will download and install the new update.

The included Windows Service named SrvUpdater (UpdaterService.exe) has been classified by a few antivirus scanners as potential malware. For instance, TrendMicro HouseCall detects it as TROJ_GEN.F47V0213 and Commtouch as W32/Trojan.YNPE-2351.

Overview

It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The main program executable is AppsUpdater.exe. Typically most users end up uninstalling this just after a few days. The software installer includes 11 files and is usually about 489.51 KB (501,258 bytes). AppsUpdater.exe is the automatic update component of the software designed to download and apply new updates should new versions be released.
