What is Reimage SmartBar?

Reimage SmartBar is an ad-supported (users may see additional banner, search, pop-up, pop-under, interstitial and in-text link advertisements) cross web browser plugin for Internet Explorer (BHO) and Firefox/Chrome (plugin) and distributed through various monitization platforms during installation. The browser extension includes various features that will modify the default or custom settings of the browser including the home page, search settings and in some cases will modify Internet Explorer's load time threshold, place a lock file within firefox to prevent competing software from changing its settings as well as disable the browser's Content Security Policy in order to allow for cross site scripting of the plugin.

Overview

The most common release is 1.6.1.683, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. It adds registry entry for the current user which will allow the program to automatically start each time it is rebooted. A majority of users end up uninstalling this less than a week of it being installed. The setup package generally installs about 95 files and is usually about 1.17 MB (1,230,336 bytes). The installed file smartbar.resources.automaticupdates.dll is the auto-update component of the program which is designed to check for software updates and notify and apply them when new versions are discovered.

How do I remove Reimage SmartBar?

You can uninstall Reimage SmartBar from your computer by using the Add/Remove Program feature in the Window's Control Panel.
  1. On the Start menu (for Windows 8, right-click the screen's bottom-left corner), click Control Panel, and then, under Programs, do one of the following:
    • Windows Vista/7/8/10: Click Uninstall a Program.
