PC Tools Internet Security

What is PC Tools Internet Security?

PC Tools Internet Security is a personal firewall. The program is a two-way firewall, monitoring incoming and outgoing traffic from a computer. It is a paid software designed for Windows 7 (32-/64-bit), Windows Vista (32-/64-bit) and Windows XP (32-bit).

Overview

The most used version is 9.0, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. Upon installation and setup, it defines an auto-start registry entry which makes this program run on each Windows boot for all user logins. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). When installed, it will add a context menu handler to the Windows shell in order to provide quick access to the program. The main program executable is pctsgui.exe. The software installer includes 64 files and is usually about 647.91 MB (679,378,654 bytes).
