Modem Helper
What is Modem Helper?
Modem Helper is a utility that is pre-installed installed with many Dell PCs that have integrated modems. Modem Helper runs a set of tests to detect the modem, analyze it, and provide relevant instructions should any problems be detected. It can be used to reinstall drivers, detect if a dial tone is present, or even see if a modem is installed or not in the PC.
Overview
The most common release is 2.40, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The primary executable is named mdm_util.exe. The setup package generally installs about 20 files and is usually about 2.37 MB (2,490,020 bytes).

How do I remove Modem Helper?
You can uninstall Modem Helper from your computer by using the Add/Remove Program feature in the Window's Control Panel.
- On the Start menu (for Windows 8, right-click the screen's bottom-left corner), click Control Panel, and then, under Programs, do one of the following:
- Windows Vista/7/8/10: Click Uninstall a Program.
- Windows XP: Click Add or Remove Programs.
- When you find the program Modem Helper, click it, and then do one of the following:
