What is Logitech Desktop Messenger?

Logitech Desktop Messenger (LDM) is a software utility designed to keep Logitech product users up-to-date. It will uautomatically update and download the latest patches, software updates and other information pertaining the user’s Logitech products available, whether it’s a mouse, a keyboard or other desktop peripherals such as Web cams, and informs the user of this availability. Like other Logitech software, installing Logitech Desktop Messenger is optional, and opting out of it won’t affect the functionality of the Logitech peripherals. Logitech Desktop Messenger is typically included with most versions of Logitech’s proprietary software such as SetPoint, MouseWare and iTouch that come bundled with the product.

Overview

The most used version is 2.52.18, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. Upon installation, it defines an auto-start registry entry which allows the program run on each boot for the user which installed it. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The main program executable is LogitechDesktopMessenger.exe. How do I remove Logitech Desktop Messenger?
