What is Idle-#-Crawler?
According to the company, this software runs in the background of the user's PC and collects browsing habits and advertising data. "Idlecrawler is a software which is collecting data from the open sources in internet in 3 different fields such as: - google search engine result pages - advertising settings - twitter stream posts The data has been sending from pc of user to Gigaclicks work servers and after it's delivering to client in report form. The user find video downloading and converting possibilities in IdleCrawler. All the information about data research is open and Idle is collecting information from the open sources." According to the Privacy Policy the following data is collected: "Software stores some of your information locally on your system. For example, the Software may store basic browsing history such as URL’s of pages is visited by Software, text and images from those pages, IP addresses linked from the pages, index of most pages you visit, cookies deposited on your system by and a record of downloads you have made. All stored data will be automatically deleted after Software session ends. Also, Software will put unique identifier to your computer in order to track further Software sessions. When Software runs on your computer, Company may automatically receive non- personally identifiable information, such as your system’s IP address, when you contact our servers. Software itself does not set any cookies. However, Software may set specific registry keys for Software installation and Software usage analysis. These registry keys are not used by Software to track your activity across sites you visiting."
Overview
During setup, the program registers itself to launch on boot through a Windows Schedule Task in order to automatically start-up (this is typically done to avoid any UAC prompts). A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The primary executable is named Idle-#-Crawler.exe. A majority of users end up uninstalling this less than a week of it being installed. The setup package generally installs about 4 files and is usually about 125.26 MB (131,348,484 bytes).
