SweetPacks Updater Service

What is SweetPacks Updater Service?

This software is included with the installation of the SweetIM Toolbar and SweetPacks (by Perion) and is not an optional install. The program is designed to update and maintain the toolbar installation.

It is also known as the IBUpdaterService which runs the process dmwu.exe as a Windows Service that is set to autostart and is installed by default in the user's System directory. dmwu.exe also adds a Windows firewall exception and listens on various UDP ports.

During uninstallation, the uninstaller requires the user to manually enter a captcha in order to help prevent automated removal.

From the EULA: "During the installation process of the Software, the Company will offer you to accept the Company’s search service as your default search service, to set the Company’s search service web page as your home page. To the extent you choose to accept such search services, based on your preferences, the Software installation program will change your browser home page to the Company’s search service web page and/or your default search service to the Company’s search service."

How do I remove SweetPacks Updater Service?

You can uninstall SweetPacks Updater Service from your computer by using the Add/Remove Program feature in the Window's Control Panel.
  1. On the Start menu (for Windows 8, right-click the screen's bottom-left corner), click Control Panel, and then, under Programs, do one of the following:
    • Windows Vista/7/8/10: Click Uninstall a Program.
    • Windows XP: Click Add or Remove Programs.
  2. When you find the program SweetPacks Updater Service, click it, and then do one of the following:
    • Windows Vista/7/8/10: Click Uninstall.
    • Windows XP: Click the Remove or Change/Remove tab (to the right of the program).
  3. Follow the prompts. A progress bar shows you how long it will take to remove SweetPacks Updater Service.
  4. If for some reason uninstallation fails, please install Microsoft's uninstall fixer utility which will help fix problems with programs that can't be uninstalled at support.microsoft.com.
