VeriFace

What is VeriFace?

VeriFace is a face-recognition software package that is a registered trademark of Lenovo and was the first Face Verification Technology on public computer. In lieu of passwords, VeriFace identifies users by matching unique features of individual faces to photographs taken by the 1.3-megapixel webcam. VeriFace is included on all new IdeaPad notebooks and netbook, and currently only works on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. It does not work on previous versions of Microsoft Windows.

Overview

The most common release is 4.0.0.1224, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. During setup, the program creates a startup registration point in Windows in order to automatically start when any user boots the PC. The primary executable is named veriface.exe. The setup package generally installs about 57 files and is usually about 141.08 MB (147,932,589 bytes).

This program is pre-installed on the PC

Pre-installed software such as this is usually included by default on the manufacturer's PC. Many OEM (original equipment manufacture) software that is included with a new PC is useful and in many cases required for the PC to function properly as in the case of various software drivers. However, some pre-installed software is optional and can be safely removed.
Some users and experts alike have reported that this program is considered bloatware or bundleware. Such software is optional and can be safely removed if you do not utilize the features of the progam.
Lenovo computers come pre-installed with software that you may not need. This often includes trial versions of anti-virus software, various security software such as facial-recognition, pc optimizations programs, backup apps, dvd burners and media players.
  • It is usually licensed for use only on the Lenovo PC on which it was pre-installed.
  • It sometimes difficult for users to remove via the 'Uninstall a Program' feature in Windows.
