What is Highlightly?

This web browser plugin injects various forms of advertising in the user's web browsers. Ads appear as popup windows, banner ads and text links. When clicking on an ad info the following details appear: "Highlightly offers a free search and translation utility in exchange for agreement to install the software and receive advertising. You can learn more here. Highlightly was installed on this computer by a user of this computer either through this website or through an advertised offer while installing another product."

From the Terms of Service file (dropped in the folder):
"The Software analyzes and records the ways in which you use your computer and the websites you visit so that you can: (i) view definitions, translations, and search results without leaving a webpage by highlighting keywords or phrases; and (ii) receive targeted advertisements in the form of additional shopping comparison, coupon, in-text transitional, and in-text link advertisements.
The Software interacts with your computer by:

- Converting words on pages you view into hyperlinks that are linked to advertisements;

- Communicating with our servers to check for new offers, the placement of offers, the date and time you install and uninstall the Software, and whether an updated version of the Software is available;
- Monitoring and recording the domain name of each page you view, the advertisements that appear on these pages, and the advertisements that you click.
- Changing browser settings to optimize Highlightly functionality and performance."
