SevenZip

What is SevenZip?

SevenZip installs the open source 7zip compression programs with a bunch of third-party adware and toolbars.

Overview

It adds registry entry for the current user which will allow the program to automatically start each time it is rebooted. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The programs's main executable is sevenzip.exe and has been seen to consume an average CPU of less than one percent, and utilizes about 3.17 MB of memory. Many users end up uninstalling this after less than a month of it being installed. The setup package generally installs about 7 files and is usually about 3.31 MB (3,469,823 bytes). Relative to the overall usage of users who have this installed on their PCs, most are running Windows 7 (SP1) and Windows 10. While about 28% of users of SevenZip come from the United States, it is also popular in United Kingdom and Italy.
  • Starts automatically
  • Delivers various 'optional' bundled software during install
  • The wisdom of the experts agree, if you don't use it you should remove it!
SevenZip has been seen bundling various 3rd party software during the installation process. Make sure to check for and remove unused programs.
