PC Speed Clean

What is PC Speed Clean?

This is a registry 'cleaner' software utility that is typically bundled with third party installers/download managers. At worst this app is digital snake oil. At best, it will do a few marginally useful things that you can do with tools included with Windows.

Overview

During setup, the program registers itself to launch on boot through a Windows Schedule Task in order to automatically start-up (this is typically done to avoid any UAC prompts). It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The main program executable is PCSpeedClean.exe. A vast majority of those who have this installed end up removing it just after a couple weeks. The software installer includes 15 files and is usually about 14.59 MB (15,298,199 bytes). updater.exe is the automatic update component of the software designed to download and apply new updates should new versions be released.
  • Automatically starts with Windows
  • Installs a Windows Service
  • Many experts agree, if you don't use it you should remove it!
