Free Zip 9.20

What is Free Zip?

This is an installer of a free zip based program that is solely designed to use the Somoto Better Installer to distribute adware and other potentially unwanted programs. The installer advertises through multiple channels (malvertising) in order to tempt a user to download the software. The software itself is just a bundler/download manager that generates revenue by 'offering' additional installs for items such as toolbars, web browser extensions and utilities such as PC optimization programs.

About  (from Somoto)

Somoto provides freeware and shareware developers with strategies to improve their software functionality, revenues, and distribution.

Overview

A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The main program executable is 7zfm.exe. Typically most users end up uninstalling this just after a few days. The software installer includes 7 files and is usually about 3.51 MB (3,679,847 bytes).
  • Bundles additional prorgams in setup
  • Generally known to have a low reputation
  • The experts agree, you should remove it!
Free Zip has been seen bundling various 3rd party software during the installation process. Make sure to check for and remove unused programs.
