Connected Backup/PC Agent

What is Connected Backup/PC Agent?

The Agent protects your critical data files. If the Agent is not already installed on your computer, contact your system administrator.

About  (from Autonomy plc)

A backup account is specific to the PC it is run on; therefore, an account may not be shared across PCs. If you have more than one PC with data that you wish to back up, you must register for the backup service for each PC.

Overview

Connected Backup/PC Agent is a software program developed by Autonomy plc. The most common release is 8.6.2.4, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. During setup, the program creates a startup registration point in Windows in order to automatically start when any user boots the PC. Upon being installed, the software adds a Windows Service which is designed to run continuously in the background. Manually stopping the service has been seen to cause the program to stop functing properly. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The primary executable is named Backup.exe. The setup package generally installs about 58 files and is usually about 2.69 MB (2,815,855 bytes). Relative to the overall usage of users who have this installed on their PCs, most are running Windows 7 (SP1) and Windows 8. While about 68% of users of Connected Backup/PC Agent come from the United States, it is also popular in India and Germany.
