Browser Updater 1.1

What is Browser Updater?

Browser Updater is part of the Simplytech Toolbar and is designed to protect the toolbar's search settings. If another toolbar or program attempts to change the user's web browser home page and search settings as well as modify protected search provider, the software will attempt to notify the user and or prevent the changes to the browser. Browser Updater does this so that the Simplytech it is protecting remains. The process will run in the background when the user logs into Windows.

Overview

During setup, the program registers itself to launch on boot through a Windows Schedule Task in order to automatically start-up (this is typically done to avoid any UAC prompts). The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The primary executable is named TBUpdater.dll. Many users end up uninstalling this after less than a month of it being installed. The setup package generally installs about 4 files and is usually about 1.63 MB (1,706,992 bytes). The installed file TBUpdater.dll is the auto-update component of the program which is designed to check for software updates and notify and apply them when new versions are discovered.
  • Automatically starts with Windows
  • May modify the web browser's home page
  • The wisdom of the experts agree, if you don't use it you should remove it!
