Cisco Systems VPN Client

What is Cisco Systems VPN Client?

Cisco® VPN Client software enables customers to establish secure, end-to-end encrypted tunnels to any Cisco Easy VPN server. Automatically distributes updated versions of the Cisco VPN Client to remote users. Eliminates the manual configuration previously required to set Internet Explorer browser proxy settings for Web browsing.

About  (from Cisco Systems)

Establish encrypted VPN tunnels with the Cisco VPN Client for highly secure remote connectivity for your mobile employees or teleworkers. Simple to deploy and use, our IPSecurity (IPsec) -based VPN client is compatible with all Cisco VPN products.

The most used version is 5.0.7, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The main program executable is vpngui.exe. The software installer includes 23 files and is usually about 9.75 MB (10,221,588 bytes). autoupdate.exe is the automatic update component of the software designed to download and apply new updates should new versions be released.
