What is Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX & Plugin?

Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX is software for viewing multimedia, Rich Internet Applications, and streaming video and audio, on a computer web browser. Flash Player runs SWF files that can be created by the Adobe Flash authoring tool, by Adobe Flex or by a number of other Macromedia and third party tools. Overview

The most common release is 10.1.102.64, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. During setup, the program registers itself to launch on boot through a Windows Schedule Task in order to automatically start-up. Upon being installed, the software adds a Windows Service which is designed to run continuously in the background. Manually stopping the service has been seen to cause the program to stop functing properly. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The setup package generally installs about 18 files and is usually about 11.72 MB (12,284,590 bytes). The Adobe Flash Player Update Service (FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe) is the Flash Player auto-update service that runs as a service and a scheduled task and used to automatically check for new releases.
