What is Samsung Drive Manager?  (from Clarus)

Samsung Drive Manager software is the software bundled with Samsung external drives. This software is for Windows computers only. Features include Backup, SecretZone, and Drive Lock (for drives that support the feature).

Overview

Samsung Drive Manager is a software program developed by Clarus. The most common release is 1.0.148, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. During setup, the program creates a startup registration point in Windows in order to automatically start when any user boots the PC. Upon being installed, the software adds a Windows Service which is designed to run continuously in the background. Manually stopping the service has been seen to cause the program to stop functing properly. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The primary executable is named drive manager.exe. The setup package generally installs about 56 files and is usually about 36.77 MB (38,555,316 bytes). The installed file XUpdate.exe is the auto-update component of the program which is designed to check for software updates and notify and apply them when new versions are discovered. Relative to the overall usage of users who have this installed on their PCs, most are running Windows 7 (SP1) and Windows 10. While about 27% of users of Samsung Drive Manager come from Brazil, it is also popular in United Kingdom and France.

There is a fault with this program that stops it running on Windows 7. I would guess this is also true on Vista and Windows 8. After a few days Samsung Drive Manager stops running, but there is no warning that this has happened except that the light on the external drive stays on permanently, whereas it should normally flash occasionally showing that it is running/backing up. This concerned me so I restarted the program, at which point it Windows user Control asks if I want to let it make changes to my computer. I choose yes. When I checked my Auto backup I realised it had not added to my Auto backup in the last few days, even though I had added and changed files. In the Trouble shooting section of the manual it suggests turning off Windows User Control. This means that you would get no warnings if malicious programs tried to change your settings. Not recommended!

Thanks for this info, the stupid program would not uninstall itself from the Add/Remove programs or the uninstall shortcut they put in your start menu. It just kept reinstalling, pathetic. Luckily your info saved the day. I wouldn't trust this software on my system if they can't even be bothered to make the uninstaller work properly.
