My experience with this program is that it's used sometimes when you use "Processing2" which is an open source programming system aimed primarily at visual graphics (and webcams/etc) found at www.processing.org OpenCV is used in conjunction with Processing 2, to provide a free open source (? I THINK it's open source ?) Facial recognition/identification software and object recognition software. Sometimes this is in-turn used with an arduino microprocessor to send serial data to control things like pan/tilt servos to create "sentries/turrets" for nerfguns and/or paintball/ laser tag systems.
