Overview

The most common release is 14.0.3.350, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. During setup, the program creates a startup registration point in Windows in order to automatically start when any user boots the PC. Upon being installed, the software adds a Windows Service which is designed to run continuously in the background. Manually stopping the service has been seen to cause the program to stop functing properly. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The primary executable is named avguard.exe. The setup package generally installs about 57 files and is usually about 296.75 MB (311,168,613 bytes).
Avira Free Antivirus has been seen bundling various 3rd party software during the installation process. Make sure to check for and remove unused programs.

Best of the antivirus programs IMO At the time of AVG version 4,which messed up my monitor settings to the point I thought I needed a new monitor or new driver or new computer...I took out AVG and went to Avast which felt clunky. Monitor problems remained. I tried Avira and almost immediately it told me my monitor settings were wonky and do I want them fixed? Yor N? It is the first program that saw that issue. Norton did not see it either as it slowly did a pc scan.. That sold me right there. That has been years ago and every once in awhile I check my computer with another AV just to see what it sees. When there are no bugs then I guess the program is doing its job. Can't be happier.

Avira is the best antivirus program I've used. I'm keeping it, I just don't install the optional extras
