AVG 9.0

What is AVG?  (from AVG Technologies)

AVG AntiVirus goes beyond simply detecting and removing viruses on your PC. It also delivers great preventative protection that blocks infected links and files as you surf, checking everything before you click through.

Overview

AVG 9.0 is a software program developed by AVG Technologies. During setup, the program creates a startup registration point in Windows in order to automatically start when any user boots the PC. Upon being installed, the software adds a Windows Service which is designed to run continuously in the background. Manually stopping the service has been seen to cause the program to stop functing properly. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. It adds a Browser Helper Object (BHO) to Internet Explorer. The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. When installed, it will add a context menu handler to the Windows shell in order to provide quick access to the program. The programs's main executable is avgam.exe and has been seen to consume an average CPU of less than one percent, and utilizes about 5.01 MB of memory. The setup package generally installs about 106 files and is usually about 95.35 MB (99,981,445 bytes). Relative to the overall usage of users who have this installed on their PCs, most are running Windows 7 (SP1) and Windows 7. While about 36% of users of AVG come from the United States, it is also popular in Italy and United Kingdom.
