WinSCP

What is WinSCP?

Some older versions of the WinSCP sponsored installer included OpenCandy advertising module. The module used the user's geo-location, operating system and language to choose "relevant advertisements". Revenue from the advertisements was shared between OpenCandy and WinSCP developers and is thus used to support WinSCP development. The current version of the installer does not contain OpenCandy module. Current versions of the WinSCP installer bundle Google Chrome.

About  (from Martin Prikryl)

WinSCP is an open source free SFTP client and FTP client for Windows. Its main function is the secure file transfer between local and remote computer. Beyond this, WinSCP offers basic file manager functionality.

Overview

The most used version is 4.0.7, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The main program executable is WinSCP.exe. The software installer includes 4 files and is usually about 1.22 MB (1,275,904 bytes).
WinSCP has been seen bundling various 3rd party software during the installation process. Make sure to check for and remove unused programs.
