Overview

WinPcap 4.1.3 is a software program developed by Riverbed Technology. Upon being installed, the software adds a Windows Service which is designed to run continuously in the background. Manually stopping the service has been seen to cause the program to stop functing properly. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The setup package generally installs about 11 files and is usually about 469.05 MB (491,837,931 bytes). Relative to the overall usage of users who have this installed on their PCs, most are running Windows 7 (SP1) and Windows 8. While about 34% of users of WinPcap come from the United States, it is also popular in France and Germany.

I am trying to install Wireshark/WinPcap, but it won't work because it says that there is an older version of WinPcap installed. Also, it won't allow me to uninstall WinPcap because it says another program is using it. I have checked the Add/Remove programs and WinPcap is not on there. I am at a loss as to what program is using it... Any help welcome thanks!
