UnfriendAlert

What is UnfriendAlert?

Unfriend Alert (Injekt) is an adware program that will hijack your web browser’s home and search pages to an unwanted search engine (possibly serves up malware and trick-to-click ware via malvertising practices). Once installed it will add a toolbar, change your browser homepage and set your default search engine. In addition, this adware will injects advertisements in the browser, also known as an ad-injector. Ad injection will insert an add, text, banner, flash or hyperlink-over into the white space or over and existing ad in the underlying HTML. Ads can be from PCP hijacked engines with very low relevance and can serve up malware, adware or other PUP. In addition the components will track your web browser history and actions and report back to a command and control server. Per the publishers terms, "The Software interacts with your computer by converting words on pages you view into hyperlinks that are linked to advertisements; communicating with our servers to check for new offers, the placement of offers, the date and time you install and uninstall the Software, and whether an updated version of the Software is available; monitoring and recording the domain name of each page you view, the advertisements that appear on these pages, and the advertisements that you click."

From the FAQs "Yes, Unfriend Alert is entirely free to use, but may show advertisements while installed. Optional offers may be presented to you after installation. For example, search offers may include the option to change your default search, home page, and/or default browser. These promotions help us to keep Unfriend Alert 100% awesome and free for you. Unfriend Alert only partners with high-quality ad providers to deliver the best user experience possible, while also helping to cover some of our costs associated with building and running Unfriend Alert."
