Skype (now a Microsoft company) developes and operates the VoIP software and service Skype which was released as a simple computer-to-computer, or computer-to-telephone program. Support for paid services such as SkypeOut, SkypeIn, and voice mail allows the company to generate its revenue as well as making local and international telephone calls easier to perform via the user's computer, sometimes cheaper than other companies' rates for similar services. Skype is used throughout the world for phone based communication ecspecially within country to country settings. Now that Microsoft owns the company, Microsoft is replacing the long lived MSN Messenger with Skype.

Skype is a software application that allows users to make voice and video calls and chats over the Internet.
