What is ScorpionSaver?
ScorpionSaver is a potentially unwanted web browser extension that is designed to deliver search-based hijacking/injection as well as contextual advertising. The program does this by modifying the user's home and search page in order to monetize a user's search activities. By installing a Browser Helper Object (BHO) in Internet Explorer (IECore.dll), a plugin in Firefox and a browser extension in Chrome, the extension has the ability to monitor and track a user web browsing activities and display various banner and link-context ads in addition to its search redirection.
In addition the software installs a Windows Service called the 'Level Quality Watcher' that is designed to run each time the computer reboots automatically. This service is 'levelqualitywatcher.exe' is also responsible for the initial installation of the web browser plugins and integration.
Within Chrome, the extension will periodically connect to http://www.ScorpionSaver.com/update/chrome in order to receive updates and notifications. It also automatically requests permissions (without notice to the end user) to integrate with Chrome's tabs, history, notifications and background services and runs with the description "Download now, save instantly!".
