What is OfferBox?  (from Aedge Performance)

The free and light OfferBox application, analyses keywords from the pages you are browsing, in real time, and displays only related and relevant offers you’re looking for whilst respecting your privacy. This is achieved through our efficient targeting technology.

OfferBox is a software program developed by Aedge Performance. The most common release is 2.00.0000, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. During setup, the program creates a startup registration point in Windows in order to automatically start when any user boots the PC. Upon being installed, the software adds a Windows Service which is designed to run continuously in the background. Manually stopping the service has been seen to cause the program to stop functing properly. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. It adds a Browser Helper Object (BHO) to Internet Explorer. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The primary executable is named OfferBoxLauncher.exe. Many users end up uninstalling this after less than a month of it being installed. The setup package generally installs about 10 files and is usually about 3.26 MB (3,421,885 bytes). Relative to the overall usage of users who have this installed on their PCs, most are running Windows 7 (SP1) and Windows Vista (SP2). While about 40% of users of OfferBox come from Italy, it is also popular in France and Germany.
