Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Windows is intended to replace Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations and Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Servers.
Overview
Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Windows is a software program developed by Kaspersky Lab. The most common release is 8.1.0.831, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. During setup, the program creates a startup registration point in Windows in order to automatically start when any user boots the PC. Upon being installed, the software adds a Windows Service which is designed to run continuously in the background. Manually stopping the service has been seen to cause the program to stop functing properly. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. When installed, it will add a context menu handler to the Windows shell in order to provide quick access to the program. The main executable is avp.exe and has been seen to consume an average CPU load of less than one percent. The setup package generally installs about 64 files and is usually about 511.05 KB (523,319 bytes). Relative to the overall usage of users who have this installed on their PCs, most are running Windows 7 (SP1) and Windows XP. While about 33% of users of Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Windows come from the United States, it is also popular in Iran and France.
