Family Search is the main source for free genealogical information, the FSI software is used to transcribe records containing such information, a user logs in and downloads images of the records then types the information into the relevant fields before returning it, ultimately to be offered free to anyone seeking it. FSI requires Java runtime to be installed, it works fine on XP, Vista and Windows 7 but it often hangs or runs very slowly in Windows 8. It does not autorun at startup and it installs no other software on the computer.
