You may have heard of secure FTP in the news recently that the chief of Google's legal department described it as being the only way Google sends requested information online to government agencies like the NSA, DHS, and other such agencies. Otherwise, they hand-deliver it in person to them. The US ARMY also widely uses secure FTP around the world from the regional headquarters to the battle front. The ARMY's choice is Globalscape's CuteFTP. So that tells you how good it is to use secure FTP if you want privacy and security in communication. With you it may not be a matter of life and death, but with the ARMY and other agencies, it often can be.
