What is AirPort?

An AirPort card is an Apple-branded wireless card used to connect to wireless networks such as those provided by an AirPort Base Station. AirPort is the name given to a series of Apple products using the (Wi-Fi) protocols (802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n). These products comprise a number of wireless routers and wireless cards. The AirPort Extreme name was originally intended to signify the addition of the 802.11g protocol to these products.


The most common release is, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. During setup, the program creates a startup registration point in Windows in order to automatically start when any user boots the PC. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The primary executable is named APAgent.exe. The setup package generally installs about 12 files and is usually about 11.58 MB (12,145,665 bytes).
